The United Kingdom Association for Humanistic Psychology Practitioners Ltd started in 1980 as a national accreditation organisation for all practitioners who use Humanistic Psychology in their work. UKAHPP is an independent member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the UK Register of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (UKRCP). See Accreditation below.
Humanistic Psychology emphasises the uniqueness of every human being, and the growth and development of the individual as the result of experience allied with understanding. UKAHPP practitioners are therefore concerned with helping their clients and students realise their own unique potential. See also our Core Beliefs.
Looking for a Counsellor or Therapist? - use our searchable
directory of members,
UKAHPP members will welcome you contacting them initially by email or phone to discuss your interest in entering into counselling or psychotherapy. As you will see from the directory, our members offer many therapeutic approaches, and work in many languages as well as English. UKAHPP members must maintain high standards of practice, subscribe to strict ethical codes, be in professional supervision, and be insured.
Professional Membership of UKAHPP
UKAHPP is truly an Association of humanistic practitioners, and is run by its members for its members. Our ethical codes are humanistic, peer-based and prioritise mediation to resolves any disputes or complaints. Counsellors, therapists and other humanistic practitioners join first as Associate members. It is quick and straightforward to join as an Associate - no forms, no application fee, and we will respond within one week. Associate members may (optionally) go on to apply for accreditation and Full membership. There are many other benefits to Associate membership. See Associate membership.
Accreditation
Accreditation is a widely recognised way of demonstrating your competence and ethical practice as a counsellor, psychotherapist or other psychology practitioner.
Accreditation by UKAHPP provides independent verification that you provide a high standard of ethical and humanistic practice. This enables potential clients to make informed choices, and provides professional recognition of what you have achieved as a practitioner.
UKAHPP accreditation is provided by fellow professionals, and the application process is conducted on a consultative and advisory basis (as opposed to a 'pass or fail' system). UKAHPP accreditation reflects your experience and personal qualities, as well as formal training. We place emphasis on the creative use of knowledge gained in both training and practice, and qualities of creativity, openness, warmth and maturity.
If you become accredited by UKAHPP as a Counsellor or Psychotherapist, this qualifies you to register with the UK Council for Psychotherapy. Currently accreditation is also provided for Therapist, Psychosexual Therapist, Group Facilitator, Group Therapist, Group Psychotherapist, Educator, Researcher, OD Consultant, Supervisor. For the accreditation criteria, see Criteria for Membership.
